Athletes' Village in Jakarta Ready for Asian Games | Jakarta Globe

Jakarta. The new complex for athletes in Kemayoran, Jakarta, is now ready for the 2018 Asian Games.

The games will be held in Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra, in August.

The complex in Kemayoran comprises 15 tower buildings with 7,426 units, which can accommodate more than 20,000 people.

"The athletes village is 99.9 percent ready, it just needs some little touch-ups," President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said, when he visited the site on Monday (26/02), accompanied by Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi, Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (Inasgoc) chairman Erick Thohir and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.

The construction, which started in 2016, was developed by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and state-owned residential developer Perum Perumnas. It cost the state Rp 3.4 trillion ($238 million).

The complex is suitable for the disabled, and will be used during the Asian Paralympic Games, which will follow the main games event.

After the games, the units will be sold to the public.

"Our recent tests show that the complex is nearly perfect," Erick of the Inasgoc said.

Similar accommodation, but for 2,000 people, is ready in Palembang.
