National Popular Vote Compact: States Unite to End Electoral College -Part 2 -

Part 1: Fair Elections: The Electoral College Must Go!

In this article, I discussed the history and reasoning behind the Electoral College. In short, the signers of the Constitution didn’t think the common man (not women or people of color) had what it takes to make the correct choice for President, so the EC was created to overturn any “poor” thinking on the part of the populace.

National Popular Vote Movement

National Popular Vote Movement to overthrow Electoral College (EC) is gaining support because the members did not follow their constitutional directive. EC representatives are politically appointed and told how to vote. They do not act in the best interests of the people but in the direct interests of money interests. We want and need a government by the people and for the people.

The National Conference of State Legislatures, 2017, reports:

The following information is taken from the NCSL websitel

Is doing something about this and initiated “The National Popular Vote (NPV) movement emerged in late 2006 The NPV seeks to ensure that the presidential candidate who wins the most popular votes nationwide is elected president.

How will this happen?

When a state passes legislation to join the National Popular Vote Compact, it pledges that all of that state’s electoral votes will be given to whichever presidential candidate wins the popular vote nationwide. However, nothing happens until states with a majority of the electoral votes have passed similar legislation. Currently, 165 electoral votes are pledged to the compact. 105 more votes are needed to enforce the compact.

The highlighted states represent 165 electoral votes. Only 105 needed to get to the 270 needed.

You can help make this happen

If your state is not Bolded-Underlined, it is to get busy. Petition your legislators to support the NVP Bill so the popular vote selects the winner of the president’s race in 2020.
